Prayagraj, formerly known as Allahabad, is a metropolis located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It serves as the administrative headquarters for both the Prayagraj division and the Prayagraj district, which is the most populous district in the state and the 13th most populous in India.
The city functions as the judicial capital of Uttar Pradesh, housing the Allahabad High Court, the highest judicial body in the state. As of 2011, it was ranked as the world's 40th fastest-growing city and held a population of approximately 1.53 million people. Hindi is the most widely spoken language in the region.
