Kanpur is a large city located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Originally established as Kanhapur and formerly known by its anglicized name Cawnpore, it serves as a significant urban center within the region.
The city was founded by the Rajput ruler Hindu Singh Chandel. Historically, Kanpur developed into one of the most prominent commercial and military stations during the period of the British Raj.
