Gorakhpur is a city located in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is situated along the banks of the Rapti river, approximately 272 kilometres east of the state capital, Lucknow. The city serves as the administrative headquarters for the Gorakhpur district, the North Eastern Railway Zone, and the Gorakhpur division.
The city is home to several notable landmarks and institutions. It houses the Gorakhnath Math, a temple dedicated to Gorakhnath, and has hosted an Indian Air Force station since 1963. Additionally, Gorakhpur is the location of Gita Press, which was established in 1926 and is recognized as the world's largest publisher of Hindu religious texts, including the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
