Budaun is a medieval city located in the Rohilkhand region of Uttar Pradesh, India. It serves as the headquarters of the Budaun district and is situated approximately one mile east of the Sot river and 27 km north of the Ganges. The city is positioned roughly 230 km southeast of New Delhi and 245 km northwest of Lucknow.
Historically, Budaun served as a significant political center, notably acting as the capital of the Delhi Sultanate for four years between 1210 CE and 1214 CE during the reign of Sultan Iltutmish. During the Mughal era, it functioned as the most important post of the Northern Frontier. Today, the city is recognized as a large market and holds historical and religious importance.
