Aligarh is a city located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It serves as the administrative headquarters for the Aligarh district and is situated approximately 130 kilometres southeast of New Delhi and 342 kilometres northwest of the state capital, Lucknow.
The city is bordered by several districts, including Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Sambhal, Badaun, Kasganj, Hathras, Etah, and Mathura, as well as the Palwal district of Haryana. As of 2011, Aligarh was ranked as the 53rd most populous city in India.
