Tarana is a type of composition in Hindustani classical vocal music. It is characterized by the rendering of specific words based on Persian and Arabic phonemes at either a medium or fast rate.
The form was invented by Amir Khusro. In modern times, its origins and the syllables used were researched and popularized by the singer Amir Khan. Nissar Hussain Khan is also noted as a tarana singer.
