Murwara, officially known as Katni, is a city located in the Mahakoshal region of central India. It is situated on the banks of the Katni River within the state of Madhya Pradesh and serves as the administrative headquarters for the Katni District.
The city is approximately 90 km (56 mi) from Jabalpur, which is the divisional headquarters of the region. Murwara is notably recognized as the "City of Lime" due to its prominent limestone and cement factories.
