Bhainsdehi is a city and a Nagar Parishad located in the Betul district of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is situated within the mountain ranges of the Satpura and serves as a predominantly tribal tehsil.
The city is historically significant as the originating place of the Purna River. According to mythological beliefs, Bhainsdehi was formerly known as Mahishmati, the capital of Raghuvanshi King Gaya. The name evolved over time from Mahishmati to Mahishvati, then to Mahishadehi, before becoming Bhainsdehi.
Notable landmarks in the area include the Prachin Shiv mandir, described as one of the city's most beautiful sites. Additionally, Kukru is recognized as the second highest point of the Mahadeo hills nearby.
