Bargis were a light cavalry mercenary group associated with the Maratha Confederacy. They were primarily known for conducting large-scale depredations across the countryside of the western part of the Bengal Subah.
The group operated during the period of Maratha invasions in Bengal, which occurred almost annually for approximately ten years between 1741 and 1751.
