Nawada is a town and municipality located in the state of Bihar, India. It serves as the headquarters of the Nawada district and is situated within the Magadh Division. The town is positioned on both sides of the Khuri River at the coordinates 24º 53’ N and 85º 33’ E.
The name of the town evolved from "Nau-abad," which translates to "the new town." Historically, it was established as a subdivision of the Gaya district in 1845. On January 26, 1973, Nawada was officially formed into its own separate district from Gaya.
