Munger, formerly spelled as Monghyr, is a twin city and Municipal Corporation located in the Indian state of Bihar. It serves as the administrative headquarters for both the Munger district and the Munger Division. The city is situated approximately 180 km east of Patna, 480 km west of Kolkata, and 1,200 km from New Delhi.
Historically, Munger was recognized as one of the major cities in Eastern India and undivided Bengal during both the Mughal period and the British Raj. Today, it remains a significant political, cultural, educational, and commercial center within Bihar and the broader Eastern Indian region.
