India

Tamluk is a city and municipality located in the Indian state of West Bengal. It serves as the administrative headquarters for the Purba Medinipur district and is situated on the banks of the Rupnarayan River near the Bay of Bengal.

The city is recognized as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Scholars generally agree that present-day Tamluk is the site of the ancient city known variously as Tamralipta or Tamralipti, which was visited by the Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang and the Buddhist monk Fa-Hien.
