Nabadwip, also spelled Navadwip, is a heritage city located in the Nadia district of West Bengal, India. Historically known as Nadia, the city was founded in 1063 CE and served as the former capital of the Sena dynasty. It is situated on the western bank of the Hooghly River at its confluence with the Jalangi River.
The city is regarded as a holy site for Hindus and is recognized as the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. During medieval India, Nabadwip was established as a significant center for philosophy and learning. It remains notable today for its traditional Sanskrit schools.
