Nalhati is a small town located in the Rampurhat subdivision of the Birbhum District in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is situated near the border between West Bengal and Jharkhand.
The town derives its name from the Nalhateshwari temple, which is recognized as one of the 51 Shakta pithas in India. According to local mythology, the site marks the location where the "nala," or throat, of the goddess Shakti fell. The Nalhati Municipality was officially established in 2000.
