Midnapore is a city located in the Indian state of West Bengal. It serves as the headquarters for the Paschim Medinipur district and is situated on the banks of the Kangsabati River.
The urban agglomeration of Midnapore includes the city proper along with Mohanpur, Keranichati, and Khayerullachak. Together with its neighboring city of Kharagpur, it forms the central core of the Midnapore Kharagpur Development Authority metro area, which spans a total of 576 square kilometres.
