Kharagpur

Kharagpur is a semi-planned urban agglomeration and a major industrial city located in the Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal, India. Situated approximately 120 km west of Kolkata, it serves as the headquarters for the Kharagpur subdivision and stands as the largest city within its district.

The city is notable for housing the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, which is recognized as the oldest and largest institute of its kind in India. Additionally, the area features one of the largest railway workshops in the country and serves as the headquarters of the Kharagpur Division of the South Eastern Railways.

Kharagpur Junction is a significant railway hub known for containing the fourth longest railway platform in the world.
