Vellore

Vellore, also spelled Velur, is a city and municipal corporation located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It serves as the administrative headquarters for the Vellore district. The city is situated on the banks of the Palar River and is surrounded by the Javadi Hills, which are an extension of the Eastern Ghats.

The city covers a total area of 76.09 km2 (29.38 sq mi) and is divided into 60 wards across four zones. It is administered by the Vellore Municipal Corporation, which is headed by a mayor elected by councilors from the various wards. As of the 2011 census, the population of the city was recorded at 315,128.

Vellore is part of both the Vellore Lok Sabha constituency and the Vellore state assembly constituency. These bodies are responsible for electing members to the Lok Sabha and the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, respectively.
