Vellalur

Vellalur is a Tamil cultural village situated in the Melur Taluk of the Madurai District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located approximately 8.3 km from the Taluk main town of Melur, 32.1 km from Madurai East, and 18 km from Sivagangai.

The village comprises several sub-villages, including Pulimalaipatti, Kattasolaipatti, Mandramalaipatti, Melavalasai, Vellanayagampatti, Idayavalasai, Mattangipatti, and Edaiyarkovilpatti. It is home to various religious sites such as the Karungal Swami, Manthakk Kovil, Karpaga Vinayakar, Vallidikaar, and Chinna Elai Kaatha Amman temples. A notable annual event in the area is a two-week festival for the Elai Kaatha Amman Temple, which begins during the last week of September.

Public infrastructure in Vellalur includes a government primary health center that offers 24-hour general medical services and a siddha medicine department. The village also hosts various local sports clubs, specifically focused on cricket.
