Tiruvallur is a town located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu within the Chennai Metropolitan Area. Situated on the banks of the Coovum river, it lies approximately 45 km (28 mi) west of downtown Chennai. The town serves as a satellite town of Chennai and functions as the administrative headquarters for the Tiruvallur District.
The town is notable for its religious landmarks, most significantly the Veeraraghava Swamy Temple, which is recognized as one of the 108 sacred shrines of Vaishnavites. A tank festival is held at a pond near this temple, and a nearby Shiva temple is popular among local residents. Additionally, the area features a 40-foot (12 m) tall Viswaroopa Panchamukha Hanuman temple, which houses a murti carved from a single green granite stone.
