Tiruchengode is a special grade municipality and town situated in the western part of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, within the Namakkal district. As of the 2011 census, it was recorded as the largest city in the Namakkal district with a population of 95,335, though current estimates for 2026 project a population of approximately 139,000.
The town is primarily known as an important pilgrimage site featuring two prominent temples located on a hilltop. These include the ancient Ardhanareeswarar Temple, which is dedicated to the combined male-female form of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi, and the Chenkottu Velavar Temple, dedicated to Lord Murugan. The site is mentioned in the Tamil work Silapathikaram as 'Nedulkundru' and is celebrated in the hymns of Saivite saints. Additionally, Tiruchengode is recognized for its rig business.
