Tindivanam is a town located in the Viluppuram district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Formerly known as Thinthirivanam due to the presence of the Shivan Thinthrineeswarar temple, it serves as the second-largest city in the district after the headquarters, Villupuram.
The town functions as a significant transportation hub for road and railway networks. It is situated along several major routes, including NH-45 (Chennai to Theni), NH-77 (Tindivanam to Krishnagiri), NH-32 (Chennai to Thoothukudi via Pondicherry), NH-132 (Tindivanam to Villupuram), and SH-134 (Tindivanam to Marakkanam). Additionally, the central government is developing new railway lines connecting Tindivanam to Nagari in Andhra Pradesh and to Thiruvannamalai to establish a junction station.
The surrounding region features several notable landmarks and tourist sites. These include the Mailam Murugan Temple, Veedur Dam, Auroville, Pondicherry, Gingee Fort, and the Fossil Wood Park. Other nearby points of interest include the Tindivanam Lakshmi Narasimhar Temple, Melmaruvathur Temple, and Marakkanam beach.
