Thuraiyur is a town and taluka located in the Tiruchirappalli district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is situated approximately 310 km away from the capital city of Chennai.
The administrative status of Thuraiyur has evolved over several decades, beginning with its upgrade from a Town Panchayat to a III Grade Municipality on January 17, 1970. It was subsequently elevated to a II Grade Municipality in May 1998 and achieved Selection Grade Municipality status in 2008.
