Thoothukudi is a port industrial city located in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, India. Situated on the Coromandel Coast along the Bay of Bengal, it serves as the capital and headquarters of its namesake district. The city is recognized as an emerging energy and industrial hub for South India.
The city is home to the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, which is one of the major ports in India. It also serves as the headquarters for Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Limited, a prominent private sector bank. According to the Confederation of Indian Industry, Thoothukudi holds the second-highest Human Development Index in Tamil Nadu, following only Chennai.
