The Tevaram, also spelled Thevaram, refers to the first seven volumes of the twelve-volume collection known as Tirumurai. This collection is a Shaiva narrative featuring epic and Puranic heroes, along with hagiographic accounts of early Shaiva saints presented in devotional poetry.
The Tevaram volumes contain the works of three prominent Shaiva Tamil saints from the 7th and 8th centuries: Sambandar, Appar, and Sundarar. These saints expressed their personal devotion to Shiva through songs intended to engage a community of believers. Their collective work serves as an important source for understanding the early medieval Shaiva Bhakti movement in South India.
