Nilakkottai is a town located in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, India. The settlement has undergone several administrative classifications over the decades, beginning with its establishment as a 1st Grade Town Panchayat in 1958. It was later designated as a Selection Grade Town Panchayat in 1970 and transitioned to being under the municipal act starting in 1996.
The town underwent further administrative changes in 2004, when it was briefly called a Special Village Panchayat, before returning to its status as a Selection Grade Town Panchayat in 2006. Nilakkottai is notably recognized for its contribution to the Madurai region's jasmine production.
