Muthupet, also known as Pearlpet, is a panchayat town and taluk located in the Thiruvarur district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The town was officially constituted as an in-town panchayat in 1962 and covers a total land area of 11.80 km2.
Administratively, Muthupet falls under the Thiruthuraipoondi assembly constituency, which elects a member to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly every five years. The town is also part of the Nagapattinam parliamentary constituency, which elects its member of parliament on a five-year cycle.
