Melur is a town located in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It serves as the northern entrance to the Madurai district and is situated within the Madurai North region. Historically, the town was known as Naduvi Nadu, while its current name is derived from "Mela Nadu." It is also referred to by the name Thaigramam.
The area is characterized primarily as agricultural land with a tropical climate. Melur constitutes the largest taluk within the Madurai District. According to 2011 census data, the town had a population of 40,017 residents.
