Marakkanam is a developing town and taluk located in the Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, India. It serves as a regional hub with significant transportation links to major surrounding areas, including the state capital of Chennai and the nearby union territory of Puducherry via the East Coast Road.
The town is connected to the city of Tindivanam to the west by State Highway 134. Additionally, Marakkanam is situated on the declared National Waterways NW-4. Once this waterway is fully materialized, it will provide a water route connecting Marakkanam to Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry through the north and south of the Buckingham Canal.
