Mamallapuram, also known as Mahabalipuram, is a town located in the Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu, in southeastern India. Situated within the Chennai Metropolitan Area, it serves as a satellite town of Chennai and was historically referred to by the ancient name Thirukadalmallai.
The town is primarily recognized for its historical significance as a prominent tourist destination featuring the 7th- and 8th-century Hindu Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram. This collection of structures is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
