Kumbakonam, also known as Kudanthai, is a city municipal corporation located in the Thanjavur district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It serves as the headquarters of the Kumbakonam taluk and stands as the second largest city in the district following Thanjavur. Geographically, the city is situated between two rivers: the Kaveri River to the north and the Arasalar River to the south.
The city is widely recognized as a "Temple City" because of its high concentration of various temples. It is also notable for hosting the Mahamaham festival, an event that occurs once every 12 years and attracts visitors from across the country.
