Kodaikanal is a town and hill station located in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, India. Situated at an altitude of 2,225 meters (7,300 feet), it lies within the Palani Hills of the Western Ghats mountain range.
The town was established in 1845 to provide a refuge from tropical diseases and high temperatures found in the surrounding plains during the summer months. Known as the "Princess of Hill stations," Kodaikanal is a popular tourist destination where much of the local economy is centered on the hospitality industry.
According to the 2011 census, the town had a population of 36,501 residents.
