Kanchipuram, also known as Kanjeevaram or Kancheepuram, is a city located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu within the Chennai Metropolitan Area. Situated approximately 72 km (45 mi) from the state capital, Chennai, it serves as the administrative capital of the Kanchipuram District and covers an area of 36.14 km2 (13.95 sq mi).
The city is widely recognized as the "City of Thousand Temples" due to its significant temple architecture, which includes huge temple towers and 1000-pillared halls. In addition to its religious structures, Kanchipuram is famous for its silk saris. It serves as a major domestic tourist destination in India and has also become a point of interest for international travelers.
