Dindigul is a city located in the southwest region of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It serves as the administrative headquarters of the Dindigul district and ranks as the 11th-largest urban agglomeration in the state. The city is situated approximately 420 km southwest of Chennai, 66 km from Madurai, and 162 km from Coimbatore.
As an ancient settlement region, Dindigul has been governed by various powers over time, including the Cheras, Early Pandyas, Cholas, Pallava dynasty, Vijayanagara Empire, Kingdom of Mysore, and the British. The city is home to several historical monuments, with the Dindigul Fort being its most prominent landmark. It is also recognized for its authentic biriyani and famous locks.
