Avadi is a city located within the Chennai metropolitan area in the Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, India. Situated approximately 22 kilometres from Chennai Central Railway Station, it serves as the headquarters for the Avadi City Police, Avadi City Corporation, and Avadi Taluk. As of 2011, the city had a population of 345,996, making it the tenth most populous place in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The area is characterized by its proximity to major defense establishments, including the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) and the Ordnance Factory Board (ODF), which houses the Engine Factory and Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE). Additionally, Avadi is home to various universities and engineering colleges. The city is accessible via the Avadi Railway Station of the Chennai Suburban Railway and is located 7 kilometres from the upcoming Karayanchavadi Metro station.
