Aruppukottai is a town located in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, India. Situated approximately 50 km from Madurai, it serves as a major transit hub positioned in the middle of the Vellore-Tuticorin National Highway (NH-38). The area is notable for its production of yarn and jasmine.
Historically, Aruppukottai was part of the kingdom of King Sethupathi of Ramnad. The town features significant religious sites, including the Arulmigu Meenakshi Chokkanatha Swamy Temple, built in the 13th century by Pandiya King Maravarma Sundarapandiyan, and the Seenivasa Perumal Temple located atop Malai arasan Hill. Additionally, the spiritual figure Sri Ramana Maharishi was born in Tiruchuli, a location near the town.
As of the 2011 census, the town had a population of 87,722. Its classical name is recorded as "Sengattu irukkai idathuvali."
