Taranagar is a city and municipality located in the Churu district of Rajasthan, India. It is situated at coordinates 28° 41'N 75° 3'E, approximately 28 miles south of Churu City.
The town was originally known as Reni, named after a woman named Rinkali who relocated there from Vishalnagar Koyalapatan. Historically, Reni served as the headquarters for the nizamat and the tehsil of the same name within the state of Bikaner in Rajputana. This administrative region comprised five eastern tehsils: Bhadra, Churu, Nohar, Rajgarh, and Reni.
In 1948, the municipality was renamed Taranagar to honor King Tara Singh, who ruled the area during the mid-18th century.
