Pokhran is a town and municipality located in the Jaisalmer district of the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is situated approximately 112 km east of Jaisalmer city within the Thar Desert region.

The name "Pokaran" translates to "place surrounded by five salt-ranges" in the Rajasthani language, reflecting its geographical setting characterized by rocks, sand, and salt ranges. The area near Pokhran is historically significant as the site for India's first and second underground nuclear weapon tests.
