Nathdwara is a city located in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, India. It is situated within the Aravalli hills on the banks of the Banas River, approximately 48 kilometres north-east of Udaipur. The name Nathdwara literally translates to "Gateway to Shrinathji (God)."
The city is primarily known as a site for the worship of Shrinathji, a swarup of Lord Krishna that resembles his seven-year-old infant incarnation. The deity was originally worshipped at Jatpura, Mathura, before being moved from Govardhan hill near the river Yamuna in 1672. Following its departure from Mathura, the deity was held in Agra for nearly six months before arriving in Nathdwara.
