Rupnagar, also known as Ropar, is a city and municipal council located in the Rupnagar district of the Indian state of Punjab. It serves as one of the five divisional headquarters of Punjab, encompassing the districts of Rupnagar, Mohali, and their adjoining areas.
The city is situated approximately 47 km northwest of Chandigarh and about 36 km from the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh (BBN) industrial corridor in Himachal Pradesh. It shares borders with the state of Himachal Pradesh to the north and the Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar district to the west.
Rupnagar is notable for its historical significance as one of the larger sites associated with the Indus Valley civilization. The area serves as a key geographical point within the Punjab region, positioned near major industrial and urban centers.
