Malout is a town located in the Muktsar district of the Indian state of Punjab, situated just outside the city of Muktsar Sahib. It lies within the southern Punjab "cotton belt," a region characterized by some of the highest cotton production per kilometer in India. The town serves as a transit point on several major highways, including NH-354, NH-9, and NH-7, which connects Fazilka to New Delhi.
Geographically, Malout is positioned approximately 30 kilometres from the border of Haryana and 65 kilometres from Rajasthan. It is located about 55 kilometres from the international border with Pakistan and has been impacted by military incidents in the past. The town dates back several centuries and was significantly shaped by the Jaat Godara (Chaudhary) people, who were among the earliest settlers and provided foundational philanthropic contributions to its development.
