Hoshiarpur is a city and municipal corporation located in the Hoshiarpur district within the Doaba region of the Indian state of Punjab. According to tradition, the city was founded during the early part of the fourteenth century.
The area saw significant historical shifts in the 19th century; it was occupied by the forces of Maharaja Karanvir Singh in 1809 and was subsequently united into the greater state of Punjab in 1849.
