Batala

Batala is a city and municipal corporation located in the Gurdaspur district within the Majha region of Punjab, India. It serves as a significant urban center, ranking as the eighth largest city in the state by population. Geographically, it is situated approximately 39 km from the holy city of Amritsar and about 32 km from the district headquarters of Gurdaspur.

The city holds historical significance as the second-oldest city in Punjab, following Bathinda. It functions as a police district and is characterized by its economic importance as the largest industrial town in the Gurdaspur district. Furthermore, Batala is the most populated town in the district, accounting for 31% of its total population.
