Amritsar, also known as Ambarsar, is a city located in the Majha region of the Indian state of Punjab. It serves as the administrative headquarters for the Amritsar district and is recognized as the second-largest city in the state, following Ludhiana.
The city functions as a major cultural, transportation, and economic center. Geographically, it is situated 217 km north-west of Chandigarh and 455 km north-west of New Delhi. It is located approximately 28 km from the India-Pakistan border and 47 km north-east of Lahore, Pakistan.
