Rourkela is a planned city located in the northern district of Sundargarh in the Indian state of Odisha. It serves as a Tier-2 city and ranks as the third-largest city in the state, following Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The city is situated approximately 328 kilometres west of the state capital.
Geographically, Rourkela is surrounded by a range of hills and is encircled by three rivers: the Koel, Sankha, and Brahmani. Due to its industrial significance, the city is popularly known as Ispat Nagar and the Steel City of Odisha.
