Rourkela is a planned industrial city located in the northern district of Sundargarh in the state of Odisha, India. It serves as a Tier-2 city and ranks as the third-largest urban center in the state, following Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The city is situated approximately 328 kilometres west of the state capital.
The geography of Rourkela is characterized by surrounding hills and its location within the basin formed by the Koel, Sankha, and Brahmani rivers. Due to its industrial significance, the city is popularly known as Ispat Nagar and the Steel City of Odisha.
