The name Konarka is also associated with Konarka Technologies, Inc., which was a solar energy company based in Lowell, Massachusetts. Founded in 2001 as a spin-off from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, the company ceased operations after filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in May 2012.
