Kohima is the capital city of Nagaland, a state in Northeast India. It serves as both a municipality and a district headquarters, with a resident population of nearly 100,000 people. As the second-largest city in the state, it occupies a municipal area covering approximately 20 km² (7.7 sq mi).
The city is situated on the foothills of the Japfü section of the Barail Range, located to the south of the district. It sits at an average elevation of 1,261 meters (4,137 feet) above sea level.
