A shaligram, also known as shaligrama shila, is a fossilized stone or ammonite sourced from the riverbed or banks of the Kali Gandaki River. This river serves as a tributary of the Gandaki River and is located in Nepal.
In Hinduism, these stones are considered a form of the deity Vishnu. Their spiritual significance is further enhanced by the fact that the Kali Gandaki flows through sacred sites, including Muktinath and Damodar Kunda. There are numerous different types of shaligrams identified within this tradition.
