Mangaluru, formerly known as Mangalore, is a major industrial port city situated on the west coast of India in the state of Karnataka. Geographically, it is positioned between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats, located approximately 352 km west of the state capital, Bengaluru, and 14 km north of the border with Kerala.
The city serves as a significant transportation hub, distinguished as the only city in Karnataka to offer all four modes of transport: air, road, rail, and sea. Additionally, Mangaluru is recognized for hosting one of the locations of the Indian strategic petroleum reserves. According to the 2011 national census, the population of its urban agglomeration was 619,664.
