Kanakapura is a city and taluka located in the Bengaluru South district of Karnataka, India. Situated on the banks of the Arkavathi river, it serves as the administrative center for the Kanakapura taluk. The city was founded by Shrihan Kanaka Sigmanath, from whom it derives its name.
The region is notable for being the largest producer of cocoon silk in India. Geographically, the Kaveri River flows around 21 km within the Kanakapura Taluk. The area also encompasses significant wildlife zones, including the Kodihalli and Harohalli Wildlife Ranges, as well as parts of the Kaveri Wildlife Sanctuary, which consists of the Sangam and Mugguru Wildlife Ranges.
